Though not everyone can afford to donate cash or time to a cause, there are endless tactics that will decrease an individual’s contribution to the landfill and their resource consumption. It feels very good to clear up a beach of shards of broken glass hiding just below the surface before an unwary swimmer splashes into it. It does not, however, feel as good to find a large fish hook by imbedding it in the bottom of your foot. The Second Law of Thermodynamics predicts the gradual energetic decay of physical closed systems ("entropy"). Arguably, the Universe as a whole is precisely such a system. More and more British households are spending a higher percentage of their income on energy costs. Using the UK Government’s own fuel poverty criteria and set against recent energy price rises it can be calculated that an extra two million households have become victims of fuel poverty. LED technology is no longer simply being used for basic indicator lights and tradeshow trinkets.
